This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our mobile application (the "App") on iOS and Android devices, how we use that information, and your rights with respect to that information. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party under any circumstances.
When you submit a diagnosis request, you may provide the following information: Vehicle Information • Year, make, and model of your vehicle • Trim level or engine type (e.g., "1.8T," "V8," "Sport AWD") • Estimated mileage • Transmission type (automatic, manual, or CVT) Diagnostic Information • A written description of your vehicle's issue • Check engine light status (on, off, or unknown) • Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) such as "P0420" or "P0171," if known • A description of when or under what conditions the issue occurs This information is provided voluntarily and is used solely to generate your AI-powered diagnosis. None of this information is linked to your identity.
The App requests the following device permissions depending on the features you use. You may decline any permission; however, some features will not be available without it. Camera (iOS & Android) We request access to your device camera to allow you to photograph your vehicle or the issue you are experiencing. Photos taken through the App are used only for the purpose of generating your diagnosis and are not stored on our servers after your result is delivered. Photo Library (iOS & Android) We request access to your photo library so you may select existing photos from your device to include with your diagnosis request. Selected photos are transmitted to our servers solely for diagnosis generation and are not retained thereafter. Location (iOS & Android) We request access to your approximate or precise location only when you use the "Find Nearby Mechanics" feature. Your location is used in a single request to identify automotive service providers near you and is not stored, logged, or tracked over time. You may revoke any permission at any time through your device's Settings application.
We do not automatically collect analytics data, behavioral tracking data, advertising identifiers, or crash reports through any third-party analytics SDK. When you submit a diagnosis request, our servers receive standard network metadata including your IP address and the time of the request. This information is used only for security, fraud prevention, and infrastructure purposes and is not associated with your vehicle data or diagnosis content.
Information you submit is used exclusively for the following purposes: • To generate an AI-powered vehicle diagnosis in response to your request • To display nearby automotive service providers based on your location (when requested) • To maintain your local diagnosis history on your device • To improve service reliability and diagnose technical issues with our infrastructure We do not use your vehicle descriptions, photos, or diagnostic information for advertising, marketing profiling, model training without your explicit consent, or any purpose other than delivering the diagnosis you requested.
Diagnosis history, saved vehicle profiles, and related preferences are stored locally on your device. This data remains entirely on your device, is not uploaded to or backed up on our servers, can be removed by deleting the App, and is not accessible to us or any third party.
When you submit a diagnosis request, your vehicle information, issue description, diagnostic context, and any photos you attach are transmitted to our servers over an encrypted HTTPS connection. This data is processed to generate your diagnosis result and is not retained after the response is delivered to your device.
Anthropic (Claude AI) — Vehicle descriptions, diagnostic context, and photos are processed by Anthropic's Claude AI API. Privacy policy: anthropic.com/privacy Google Places API — When you use the "Find Nearby Mechanics" feature, your location is transmitted to Google's Places API. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy We are not responsible for the data practices of these third-party services.
All data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted using industry-standard TLS. We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information during transmission.
We do not sell, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer your information to third parties for commercial purposes. Period. We may share information only if required by law, to prevent fraud, or in connection with a business acquisition — in which case users will be notified prior to any transfer.
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Because diagnosis data is not retained on our servers and history is stored locally on your device, you may delete your local data at any time by clearing the App's storage in your device settings or by uninstalling the App. You may revoke camera, photo library, or location permissions at any time through your device's Settings.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

THE INFORMATION, DIAGNOSES, AND RECOMMENDATIONS PROVIDED BY THIS APP ARE FOR INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. Nothing contained within this App constitutes professional mechanical advice, engineering guidance, or any form of certified technical consultation. You should always consult a licensed, qualified automotive technician before undertaking any vehicle repair.
You expressly acknowledge and agree that: (a) Automotive diagnostics involves inherent uncertainty, and even licensed professionals routinely misdiagnose vehicle issues; (b) AI-generated diagnoses may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or entirely inapplicable to your specific vehicle; (c) Any action taken in reliance on information provided by this App is undertaken entirely at your own risk; (d) You assume full, sole, and complete responsibility for any decision made or action taken from information obtained through this App.
THE APP AND ALL CONTENT ARE OFFERED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND — EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED — INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR RELIABILITY.
All repair and parts cost estimates are approximate figures generated by an AI model. These estimates are approximations only, do not account for regional variations or specific vehicle conditions, and are not binding quotes or guarantees of any kind. Do not rely on them as the sole basis for any financial decision.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO VEHICLE DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, FINANCIAL LOSS, OR DATA LOSS — ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THIS APP, REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY UNDER WHICH DAMAGES ARE SOUGHT.
This App does not provide any form of vehicle warranty, mechanical breakdown insurance, roadside assistance, or any other coverage of any kind.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Mechanic in My Pocket and its owners, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, or expenses arising out of your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or any action taken in reliance on the App's output.
The diagnostic content delivered by this App is generated by a third-party artificial intelligence model. We do not control, verify, or guarantee the output of that model. AI systems can produce incorrect or inconsistent information. The AI's outputs do not constitute expert mechanical knowledge or professional assessment of your specific vehicle.
Each diagnosis report is sold as a non-refundable, single-use consumable purchase ("Diagnosis"). All sales are final. (a) Once a Diagnosis has been purchased and the report has been generated and delivered to your device, no refund will be issued under any circumstances, including but not limited to dissatisfaction with the AI-generated output, disagreement with the diagnosis, or the report not matching a mechanic's assessment. (b) If a purchase is successfully processed but no report is delivered due to a confirmed technical failure on our end, please contact us at mechanicinmypocket@gmail.com and we will investigate and, at our sole discretion, provide a replacement report or issue a refund. (c) Apple processes all in-app purchases. Refund requests submitted directly to Apple are governed by Apple's own refund policies and are outside our control. We cannot guarantee any outcome of an Apple refund request. (d) We reserve the right to deny refund requests that we reasonably believe are made in bad faith, that involve abuse of our services, or that do not meet the limited criteria described above.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App following any posted changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, it shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary or severed, without affecting the remaining provisions.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Mechanic in My Pocket with respect to your use of the App.
